7 Days- 3 Ingredients- 1 Simple Way to Give Back  Welcome to Negroni Week, a celebration of one of the world’s great cocktails. For one week every June, bar and restaurants mix classic Negronis and Negroni variations for a great cause! The Negroni is a popular Italian apéritif cocktail, made of one part gin, one part vermouth rosso and one part Campari, garnished with orange peel. Thought to have been invented in 1919, in Florence, Italy at Caffè Casoni. The story goes that Count Camillo Negroni asked his friend and bartender Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen his favourite cocktail, the Americano. He did so by switching the soda for gin and garnished it with an orange peel to signify it was a different drink. Soon, everyone was coming into the bar and ordering a Count Negroni. Little did he know that it would be because of his time spent in London, with its prevalent gin scene, that Camillo would go on to create one of the most iconic cocktails of all time! Portobello Cafe,Bar & Garden Restaurant is participating in this year's festival, presenting three special Negroni recipes signed by the barman mr. Timos . Here are his recipes: Aged Negroni: Graced Gin-Campari- Bitter- House Blend Vermouth "I tried to create an instant aged negroni", says Timos,"combining scents aged in a bottle with arromatic bitters. It is a mix for firm drinkers!" Aegean Negroni: Masticha-Campari-Dry Vermouth-Vanilla-Cumcuat-Garnish "This is an alternative suggestion; adding masticha gives the drink a bitter-sweet finishing. I serve it with a pairing of masticha, cumcuat and campari dust garnish, which can be mixed in the drink to enrich its taste." Sbaggliato Negroni: Campari-Gin-Sweet Vermouth-Aromatic Bitters "This is a lighter version of the drink with prosecco, the sparkling makes it refreshingly bubbly!" We wanted to participate in this event because we love ourselves a good drink!", says mr. N.Machairas, manager of Portobello. "Since 2013, Negroni Week has grown from about 120 participating venues to almost 10,000 venues around the world, and they have collectively raised about $2 million for charity. It is a good cause to bring to Skiathos!" Portobello's charity of choice is Free Education because "We belive in equal opportunities" concludes mr. N.Machairas. The bar lies in the heart of Papadiamanti Street, a garden oasis carved with wood, it is the perfect getaway for a hot greek summer night.
