Τα Σταχτοδέλφινα είναι ένα από τα λιγότερο μελετημένα και σχετικά άγνωστα είδη δελφινιών που ζουν στις θάλασσές μας. Μεταναστεύουν σε μικρές ομάδες πάνω από βαθιά θαλάσσια φαράγγια και τάφρους.

Μία από τις σημαντικότερες περιοχές για αυτό το είδος είναι η θαλάσσια περιοχή βόρεια της Ικαρίας - η λεγόμενη Τάφρος της Ικαρίας. Εκεί, το φθινόπωρο του 2000, καταγράφηκε για πρώτη φορά από το Αρχιπέλαγος η μετανάστευση των Σταχτοδέλφινων στο ανατολικό Αιγαίο. Έκτοτε συνεχίζουμε συστηματική έρευνα και μακροχρόνια παρακολούθηση, που μας βοηθούν να κατανοήσουμε καλύτερα και να προστατεύσουμε αυτά τα μοναδικά ζώα.

Risso’s Dolphins in the Depths of the Aegean Sea

Risso’s dolphins are among the least studied and most unknown dolphin species inhabiting our seas. They migrate in small pods through the deep waters of the Aegean, often above underwater canyons and steep seabed trenches.

One of the most important areas for this species is the marine region north of Ikaria Island - the Ikaria Trench. It was here, in the autumn of 2000, that the migration of Risso’s dolphins in the eastern Aegean was first recorded by Archipelagos. Since then, we have continued systematic research and long-term monitoring, helping us better understand and protect these remarkable animals.

Each sighting brings us one step closer to revealing the unexplored marine life of the deep waters of the Aegean.
